Jose Maria Rubin Zubiri

Jose Maria Rubin Zubiri of Kabankalan, Negros Occidental, Philippines was a collegiate basketball athlete, graduating from De La Salle University in Taft Avenue Manila with a degree in BS Management.

He acted as president and CEO of a number of business firms prior to joining public service. Among these were Urban Green, Inc., Rancho Mercedes, Inc. and Valle Escondida Farms. He was executive vice president of the Bukidnon Sugar Company (BUSCO) from 1975-1988. He was an Assemblyman at the Batasang Pambansa from 1984 to 1986. He served as Congressional Representative from 1987 to 1998, before being elected to the governorship of the Province of Bukidnon. He is also the president of the Confederation of Sugar Producers Associations (Confed).

He married socialite-designer Maria Victoria “Vicki” Ocampo Fernandez, with whom he has 5 children (the third being Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri).
